BMW Grand Sedan (E3) model series

In the autumn of 1968, BMW came back to the market for luxury cars again with a sedan at the top of the range. The new model series referred to internally as E3 is primarily now known under the designation of "Grand Sedan" ("Große Limousine"). All models in this series are powered by a six-cylinder inline engine from the M30 engine family. Displacements range from 2.5 to 3.3 litres with outputs up to 200 hp. Alongside two-stage carburettors, intake-manifold injection systems were also installed from 1972. The BMW "Grand Sedan" ("Große Limousine") (E3) is regarded as the precursor of the BMW 7 Series (E23), which was launched in 1977 when production of the "Grand Sedan" ("Große Limousine") came to an end.
