In 1979, the BMW 728i fitted with electronic petrol injection replaced the BMW 728 with a carburettor as the entry-level model in the first BMW 7 Series (E 23). The visual appearance was virtually unchanged and the BMW 728i offered an improvement in comfort and safety, in addition to a small increase in performance of 14 hp.
