In 1992, the premiere of the BMW 5 Series (E34) equipped with V8 engines was celebrated at the IAA Frankfurt Motor Show. The BMW 530i (E34) was one of the new eight-cylinder models, which up to this point had still been powered by a six-cylinder engine. It now became the entry-level model into the world of BMW V8 engines with its new 3.0 litre engine (M60B30). To this day, the power unit continues to be regarded as reliable and rugged, and it improved the output of the BMW 530i to 218 hp, representing an increase of 30 hp by comparison with the six-cylinder model. For the first time, the BMW 530i was also supplied in this version as a Touring version. More than 30,000 BMW 530i Sedans were manufactured between 1992 and 1995.
