BMW Z3 M (E36)

The development of an M version of the BMW Z3 (E36) Series was planned right from the start and was intended to encompass the roadster and the coupé. Just a few months after the M Roadster went on sale in March 1997, photos of an M Coupé version were circulating, although it was ultimately only officially presented in September 1997. The first revisions came along in April 1999 and they impacted on the appearance, equipment and engineering. From March 2001, a new sports engine (S54) was introduced. The engineering of this power plant drew on a different basic engine to the power pack previously used (S50). Production came to an end in May 2002. A total of 21,613 Z3 M automobiles were produced.
