The BMW M3 (E30) Convertible was presented at the IAA Frankfurt Motor Show in 1987 and went into series production from 1988 onwards. The convertible was equipped with the same engine as the sedan and initially generated 195 hp (200 hp without a catalytic converter) and 215 hp as standard from September 1989. This output made it the most powerful four-seater series convertible. Manufacture came to an end in 1991 with a production run of just 786 examples.
