The BMW M3 (E36) was the successor to the BMW M3 (E30) and the second generation of BMW M3 vehicles. It was launched in the marketplace as a coupé in 1992. From 1994, it was joined by a convertible and a sedan. All the cars were fitted with a six-cylinder inline engine from M GmbH (S50B30) generating 286 hp. There was only a different engine for the USA because of the emissions regulations there. A major technical revision followed at the end of 1995, introducing a new engine generating 321 hp and with a larger displacement (S50B32). Here too, a special route was necessary for the market in North America. A total of 71,242 vehicles were produced worldwide.
