From March 1995, an extensive revision was carried out on the visual appearance, engine and equipment to yield an improved version of the BMW M3 (E36). Sales of the new version were launched in August 1995. The engine was given a displacement of 3.2 litres (S50B32) as a result of changes to the bore and stroke. It also features continuously variable control of the intake and exhaust camshaft (double VANOS), a technology that was used here for the first time. The BMW M3 Coupé in its 321 hp version was only manufactured in Regensburg. Out of a total of 8,962 units produced, 2,845 are righthand drive vehicles, 1,842 vehicles were factory fitted with the new SMG transmission.
