The BMW 6 Series was only supplied as a coupé. BMW commissioned coachbuilder Karmann in Osnabrück to produce this standard version. The body of the BMW 6 Series had a very extended and elegant appearance, while at the same time presenting a dynamic and powerful performance profile. Paul Bracq was BMW's Chief Designer at the time and he was responsible for the new design of the vehicle provided with large glazed areas. Higher requirements for passive safety meant that the passenger cell was designed with a B-pillar in contrast to its predecessors.
