The BMW 320Cd Convertible was introduced at the same time as the BMW 330 Cd Convertible and represented an even greater trailblazing breakthrough. Not only was it a convertible powered by a diesel engine (which would have been unusual enough) but it was also designed with "only" four cylinders. These cylinders actually delivered an output of 150 hp with very fuel-efficient consumption (5.7 litres per 100 kilometres) and coupled with an appealing six-speed manual gearbox they were the perfect choice for enthusiastic convertible drivers. Many of the fans recognised the concept as extremely bold but the reality was that it only attracted a limited number of buyers. Only approximately 5,400 units were produced and the BMW 320Cd Convertible is therefore somewhat of a rarity.
