BMW 330xd Touring (E46)

When the BMW 330xd Touring was released in 2000, it was the first diesel all-wheel drive vehicle ever produced. One year later, it was followed by the BMW 330xd Sedan. The powerful high-tech diesel power plant had a displacement of 3.0 litres (M57) and initially delivered an output of 184 hp. From 2003, a technical revision of the engine in fact even enabled the power plant to generate an output of 204 hp. The special features of the engine included the common rail direct injection and the variable turbine geometry of the turbocharger. They ensured that there was virtually no turbo lag and the BMW 330xd Touring was almost as sporty to drive as its counterpart powered by a petrol engine. The economical diesel engine was actually far more popular: over 10,000 units were sold (BMW 330xi Touring: only approximately 3,000 units).
