One year after the BMW 320d Sedan, the BMW 320d Touring was launched in September 1999. Initially, the Touring was still fitted with an engine supplied by a distributor-type injection pump (M47D20) but in 2001 the Touring was given a new engine (M47D20TÜ) with common rail injection. This increased the power output from 136 hp to 150 hp and the maximum torque from 280 Nm to 330 Nm. This was one of the first Touring models to apply such technology. It marked an important stage in the development of diesel engines at BMW.
