The BMW 318d Touring was launched in the marketplace in 2002. Although at this point in time, the new diesel engines with common rail technology were already being marketed, the BMW 318d Touring was still fitted with the older engine (M47) up until March 2003. This had a distributor injection pump. As a result, it could be supplied at a more appealing price and was therefore intended as an entry-level model. The new four-cylinder engine (M47TÜ) with common rail injection was only installed later on. Up until 2006, more than 19,000 vehicles of this type were manufactured.
