On 24 April, Hubert Hahne passed away at the age of 84. BMW Group Classic bids farewell to a fantastic racing driver who rendered particularly distinguished service to BMW in many different ways as a works driver, dealer and tuning expert. He provided a magic moment in motor sport on August 6, 1966: With his BMW 2000 Ti Hubert Hahne for the first time cracked the 10 minutes for driving round the North Loop of the Nürburgring. More than 100,000 spectators serenaded the driver and the Formula 1 race that followed on from this achievement was virtually a sideshow.
This BMW 520i was an honest and respectable workhorse: 217,000 kilometres as a training car for the fire brigade – and indeed it looked the part. The technical repairs were no problem for 5 Series fan Maximilian Heubeck. But transforming the car into the eyecatcher it now is at exhibitions was more of a challenge. The faithful restoration back to its original condition was a tough assignment, from the supertone horns under the bumper to the “Emergency Response Vehicle” decals – a proud witness to the BMW tradition of powerful emergency vehicles.
Classic fans know all about historic vehicles. But they too can have an even more intense experience with the unique collection of BMW Group Classic by going on an expert tour. This is the central feature of an exclusive package for up to 20 participants. The tour at the collection of the BMW Group Classic can be combined with a visit to the standalone BMW Museum and the BMW Welt to an all-day-experience.
