STORY OF THE WEEK

TODAY 60 YEARS AGO: THE BIRTH OF THE CLASSIC MINI.

Happy Birthday to a British legend. On 26 August 60 years ago, the Morris Mini-Minor and the virtually identical Austin Seven were presented to the public. A lot of water has passed under the bridge since then. BMW Group Classic celebrates the anniversary of the little car with the big interior by presenting contemporary TV footage and other material from the history of the MINI brand (see link below). The trip down memory lane makes it clear that the birth of the classic Mini was an era of hope. But it’s also evident that in 1959 virtually nobody had an inkling of the success and the iconic cultural importance of this automobile.

MEET BMW GROUP CLASSIC

KATI WITT AND LEOPOLD PRINZ VON BAYERN AT THE WHEEL OF A BMW 328: IT DOESN’T COME MORE CLASSIC.

Relaxed atmosphere, fun behind the wheel, diversity of brands and vintages. Since 2008, these have been the strengths of the Hamburg Berlin Classic rally for cars of yesteryear. This year, BMW Group Classic is presenting truly illustrious showpieces. Two models of the BMW 328 are lining up at the start, representing the dream car from the pre-war era. The two drivers taking the wheel are brand ambassadors Leopold Prinz von Bayern und Katarina Witt, two-time Olympic Champion for figure skating. The rally being held at the weekend of 29 to 31 August is starting at Berlin’s Olympic Stadium and will cover 750 kilometres criss-crossing Mecklenburg and Lower Saxony before ending in Hamburg. This is a wonderful opportunity to admire the parade of 180 distinguished vintage cars and modern classics or to participate in one of many special tests.

REPLACEMENT PART OF THE WEEK

FAN MOTOR FOR AN INTERIOR WITH STYLE.

The epitome of “style” in the luxury class is at least as obvious inside the vehicle as on the outside. Since the exceptionally successful launch of the 7 Series in 1977, a touch of understatement was always the name of the game at BMW when it came to making the latest technology user friendly and introducing creature comforts into the passenger compartment. Naturally, smooth-running ventilation, heating and air conditioning are part of the overall picture. The BMW Classic Parts Shop has the appropriate fan motor in stock for a large number of classic models: for example the BMW 02 Series, the BMW 7 Series and the first generation of the BMW 6 Series, as well as the second-generation BMW 5 Series. This is a motor that operates almost imperceptibly – except when it needs to be replaced.
