Cassettes lying around in the car without any titles. Passengers with maps on their knees. Compulsory seatbelts in the 1970s and how that relates to freedom. These are some of the themes and concepts featured in six short films from BMW Group Classic about driving distinguished classic cars. They are presented in the form of internal monologues or “Inner Voices”. A twin pleasure: Firstly, the nostalgic and philosophical thoughts. Secondly, of course, the cars.
A big thank you goes to the Internet and to streaming technology. The big revival of the legendary BMW M1 Procar Racer at the coming weekend (5-7 July 2019) can be seen live by all fans free of charge. At the weekend of the German Touring Car Masters (DTM) on the Norisring, 14 identical mid-engined sports cars will once again compete, as they did in 1979 and 1980, when they provided the memorable warm-up races before the European Formula 1 rounds. Former Formula 1 drivers Hans-Joachim Stuck and Marc Surer are two motor-sport stars who will be lining up at the start of the Procar revival. These two drivers were already sitting in the cockpit taking these thrilling corners 40 years ago. A commentary in German is provided in the stream for all the races.
Chris Harris is a national celebrity in the United Kingdom – this applies to everybody who has worked in the presenting line-up to create the “Top Gear” motoring show at the BBC. Recently the journalist had a special mission: The 77th Goodwood Members’ Meeting. 60 classic Minis celebrated the car’s 60th birthday with a race. Harris hadn’t driven a Mini for 25 years and he achieved an astonishing 11th place in the race for the Betty Richmond Trophy. Moreover, he made a wonderful film about it. Hats off, Mister Harris!
Owners of a BMW 02 are familiar with the interior workings of their magnificent machine. Many of them are probably also au fait with this particular detail. Boxed, reinforced versions of the trailing arm for the rear axle were installed for the particularly powerful BMW 2002 tii and the BMW 2002 turbo. These parts are now being supplied again in the BMW Classic Parts Shop. The real gain is that they fit all the versions of the BMW 02 Series and everyone gets to enjoy tangibly more stability and dynamic performance.
