Birth certificate.

The new birth certificate for your classic BMW vehicle – now in digital form.

Since the start of 2024, the BMW Group’s archive has offered a digital birth certificate as a replacement for its vehicle certificates.

What is still the same?

Our birth certificate still contains comprehensive information about the production and delivery of a vehicle, such as its chassis and engine numbers, production and/or delivery date, plus – on classics built in the 1980s and since – details on optional equipment fitted and transmission numbers.

Owners of historical BMW vehicles who have proof of ownership and photos of the chassis and engine numbers can request a birth certificate using the order form.

What is new?

We’ve changed the name of the document to “birth certificate” to clarify that it represents an authentic record of the vehicle’s delivery status and first buyer, rather than a certificate of authenticity. Added to which, the birth certificate is fully digital and bears a digital signature to prevent manipulation and conserve resources. Problems with shipping are a thing of the past!

This birth certificate will give you answers to all questions concerning the history of the vehicle in question, including individual items of data. It also replaces the earlier manufacturer's certificate. So you can look forward to a modern, reliable documentation of your beloved classic BMW.

The fee for the digital birth certificate is 125 EUR and can be paid by bank transfer.

Unfortunately, telephone enquiries are no longer possible for data protection reasons.

BMW VEHICLE CERTIFICATE.

We take a close and careful look at your classic.
Want to sell your classic or purchase an historic BMW? You can place your trust in the BMW Vehicle Certificate, which will tell you about its state of originality and condition – and thus its market value as well. As part of the certification process, the vehicle’s components, assemblies and materials are scrutinised for authenticity using state-of-the-art testing and measurement methods, while the experts from the Historical Documentation Center are called upon to help us piece together a vehicle history that is as complete as it can be.
The result is greater peace of mind for you, whether you’re buying or selling.
