STORY OF THE WEEK

STORM AND STRESS: UPROAR IN TOURING CARS.

Manfred Winkelhock, Marc Surer and Eddie Cheever – in 1977, these three were very young, rather wild and lightning fast. They were received by drivers from the established competition as the BMW “Toddler’s Group” and they well and truly stirred things up in the German Racing Championship (DRM). Hundreds of thousands of fans came to experience the spectacle at the Nürburgring. The “BMW Junior Team” wrote motor-sport history and the three young tearaways were soon driving in Formula 1...

MEET BMW GROUP CLASSIC

REPLACEMENT PART OF THE WEEK

IS SUPPLIED ONCE MORE: A FUEL TANK NAMED “SCHORSCH”.

The legendary BMW motorcycle rider Georg “Schorsch” Meier (active until 1953) gave his name to a special fuel tank that was supplied for the big generation of touring and sports motorcycles during the 1950s and 1960s. To this day, the special model of the fuel tank is still in great demand from aficionados of classic machines. The fuel tank is tapered towards the tail instead of straight, it is suitable for the models BMW R 50 to BMW R69 S and it will be supplied again from May.

60 YEARS OF MINI

4 APRIL 1959: THE FIRST MINI ROLLS OFF THE ASSEMBLY LINE.

The big story about the little British motor car started with a pilot run at the Longbridge works in Birmingham. 60 years ago, production of the Austin Seven, the original model for the classic Mini, started up. The first Morris Mini-Minor drove out of the factory gates in Oxford on 8 May 1950. This represented the launch of a unique success story. BMW Group Classic is presenting episodes and impressions from this story on the official channel of the classic Mini on Instagram.
