The fourth generation of the BMW 7 Series was initially presented with a V8 petrol engine. Apart from a body extended by 14 cm, the BMW 735Li was virtually identical with the BMW 735i from a technical perspective. The model therefore shared the key technical innovations with the shorter version. The V8 engine installed in the BMW 735Li had VALVETRONIC and an intake manifold with variable length. Both measures assisted in reducing the fuel consumption by 14% at 14% higher power output.
