The fourth generation of the BMW 7 Series was the start of a design revolution at BMW. It heralded a move away from the wedge shape, completely new configuration of joint contours and a playful configuration of light and shadow on the vehicle. It was a masterpiece from a technical perspective. The list of innovations is long: Features installed included Active Cruise Control, a coloured Head-Up Display and an exhaust turbocharger with variable length. Dynamic Drive again significantly enhanced the dynamic driving qualities and iDrive revolutionised the operation of these modern automobiles. BMW was initially criticised for this but the competitors followed suit years later.
