BMW 7 Series Sedan (E65)

The new BMW 7 Series (internally known as the E65) was presented as a four-door saloon at the IAA in 2001, with the 735i and 745i models going on sale in November 2001. In April 2002, the long-wheelbase versions 735Li and 745Li appeared; these models with a wheelbase extended by 140 millimetres have their own model series designation (E66). A few months later, the range was supplemented by the 730d and 740d diesel engine variants. The design broke with the conservative lines of its predecessor, the E38, and was the subject of controversy. The front section and the striking boot lid in particular epitomised the new design line under the then Head of Design Chris Bangle. One of the few design elements that Bangle added alongside the twin headlights was the Hofmeister kink. A major facelift took place in April 2005, which was shown publicly for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show.
