The fourth generation of the BMW 7 Series was equipped with V8 petrol engines right from the start. The BMW 745Li was technically practically identical to the BMW 745i apart from a 14 cm longer body. It therefore also shared the main technical innovations with the shorter version. The V8 engine in the BMW 745Li featured VALVETRONIC and a continuously variable intake manifold system. Both measures helped to reduce fuel consumption by 14% while increasing performance by 14%.
