The fourth generation of the BMW 7 Series was initially launched with V8 petrol engines. From model year 2005, the series received a further developed generation of V8 engines. The larger of the two engines on offer had a displacement of 4,799 cm³ and achieved a maximum output of 367 hp (270 kW) and a maximum torque of 490 Newton metres. With this engine, the saloon accelerated from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds and thus offered powerful yet superior performance in the luxury segment.
