V8 petrol engines had already been introduced for the fourth-generation BMW 7 Series. From the 2005 model year onwards, a further developed V8 engine generation was used. The smaller of the two engines has a displacement of exactly 4,000 cm³, a maximum output of 306 hp (225 kW) and a maximum torque of 390 Nm. With this engine, the vehicle accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds.
