The fourth generation of the BMW 7 Series was initially introduced with powerful V8 petrol engines. From 2005, a new generation of V8 engines was installed in these vehicles. The smaller of the two engines with a displacement of exactly 4,000 cc produced a maximum of 306 hp and developed a maximum torque of 390 Nm. The V8 engine used in the BMW 740Li was equipped with VALVETRONIC technology and a continuously variable intake manifold system. These two innovations made it possible to increase the engine output by 14% and at the same time reduce fuel consumption by 14%.
