Apart from an increased body length of 14 cm, the BMW 730Ld was virtually identical with the BMW 730d from a technical perspective. However, it also shared the key technical innovations with the shorter version. The BMW 730Ld was a model for all those BMW 7 Series customers who wanted to reduce consumption and, most importantly, achieve a significant increase in the range for longer journeys while also enjoying the benefits of luxurious interior dimensions. The 6-cylinder inline engine with Common Rail diesel direct injection and variable turbine geometry was adequate for the customary performances without a noticeable turbo gap.
