What a find! What a story! Elvis Presley’s BMW 507 speaks volumes about gaining fame and losing fame, rediscovery and the wonders of restoration.
Such a find happens only very rarely Elvis Presley’s BMW 507 turned up in a Californian pumpkin shed, was taken back to its place of birth in Munich and has been fully and authentically restored. It is now once again basking in the Californian sun as the celebrity guest of the legendary Concours d’Elegance in Pebble Beach.
Our fans have been following the destiny of Elvis’s BMW 507 closely for more than two years. After all, this was the legendary sports car driven by none other than the King of Rock ’n’ Roll and the most famous army conscript in history. He took his top-of-the-line racer back home with him, where he sold it and all trace of it was lost. Decades later, upon its sensational rediscovery in a pumpkin shed in California, this royal heap of junk was sent back to Munich where it was inspected, disassembled, resprayed and put together again in preparation for its auspicious return to Pebble Beach. A fascinating automobile saga worthy of a Hollywood film in itself – and yet it’s far from over.
With a twinkle in one eye and tear in the other.
We’re bringing to a close one of the most personal projects ever carried out by BMW Group Classic. With all the dedication and hard work we've put in, it is understandable that many of those involved feel a twinge of sadness to see it leave its original home and fly back to the States. It was not only exceedingly challenging to return this incomparable vehicle to its original beauty and condition – it was also an honour. A once in a century project whose final chapter is currently being written. Unfortunately, former owner Jack Castor was unable to witness the completion of Elvis’s BMW 507, but we’re sure he would have been proud.
What a great job!
To finish, we would like to thank everybody who has been following the project for the past months and years, who have celebrated with us and have been longing to see the final result. We hope it has been as special for you as it has for us. We are also presenting a documentary that summarises everything we've been doing over the past few years.
And if you’re still hungry for more, there’s our small film project Petrolicious to look forward to, which was created during the Concours d’Elegance in Pebble Beach. Californian sun comes included.
Thanks for an unforgettable time. Thank you for the ride!
And so long, Elvis!
