The Goodwood Festival of Speed is an overwhelming onslaught on the senses of old-timer and racing enthusiasts. Nowhere else will you find such an abundance of historic top-class racing and rally cars as here. And nowhere else will these machines have the opportunity to push themselves to their limits one more time.
It all kicks off again on 29 June 2017. His Lordship Charles Henry Gordon-Lennox, Earl of March and Kinrara, invites you to the Festival of Speed, hosted on his estate just south of London. An institution since 1993, this event is as spectacular as it is entertaining. This year’s motto is:
„Peaks of Performance – Motorsport’s Game Changers“
You would be hard pressed to find anyone other than Lord March who could attract such an illustrious and high-profile guest list, resulting in a cast that consists of one highlight after another. The legendary hill climb of over 1.16 miles that takes place in front of thousands of fans promises a field of entirely different racing cars and real gumption on the part of their drivers, because the tight, hunchback course is a true challenge especially for Formula One racing cars. All the more astonishing is the way in which some drivers shoo their unique, irreplaceable specimens through the curves. For the spectators it's a real feast, and for four days the atmosphere is that of an automobile carnival.
The F1 Paddock has current Formula One cars and their drivers on display. At Supercars on parade, the most sophisticated and technologically advanced vehicles of their era are brought together, while Goodwood Action Sportspresents freestyle motocross, trials, BMX and mountain bikes and their stars. The Rallye Stage recreates old duels of the rallye stars on a widely ramified network of forest roads, including gravel and mud. Style et Luxe, on the other hand, displays particularly rare and beautiful automobiles of the luxury class.
There are also historical aircraft – some are only on display, while others will take you on a tour to view the landscape from above, which is rather breath-taking in this area. Impulse buyers get a chance to treat themselves to a special gift at a Bonhams auction for valuable, fascinating vehicles, while various open-air concerts featuring different artists provide diversion during short breaks in which to catch your breath.
From Thursday, 29 June to Sunday, 2 July 2017, Goodwood will once again be celebrating a festival of superlatives that will not be quickly forgotten by anyone who takes part this year. Because after all, it never fails to deliver on this promise.
