A look back at 2016.
Dear BMW Group Classic fans,
BMW Group Classic is taking stock of an extraordinary year. The main focus, of course, were the anniversary celebrations for 100 years of the BMW Group and BMW brand - a hundred years of corporate history filled with groundbreaking inventions which still have the power to astound us even today.
Starting from scratch.
Our relocation to the painstakingly renovated and historic workshops in Moosacher Straße was another top highlight. At last, our entire historic collection, the BMW Group archive, the BMW Group Classic Centre and historic workshop have been united in one location - back in the place where it all began.
Selected areas of the BMW Group Classic Centre are now also open to interested members of the public. Come and visit our café Mo 66 for a coffee or book a tour through our collection of historic cars.
The BMW Festival was a huge summer party the likes of which we have never seen. So many clubs and fans of the brand brought together in one location with a host of stunning cars and motorbikes from every era and limitless enthusiasm. The success of the event truly took our breath away.
A new beginning.
The story behind the restoration of Elvis’s BMW 507 (finished just in time for the anniversary) was also a spectacular addition to the proceedings. In full white just as the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll received it, this top sports car was presented to the world on the well-tended greens of the famous Pebble Beach golf resort - a true hole-in one, as they say.
BMW Group Classic reloaded.
Now that we’ve had a good long look back into the past, it’s time to set our eyes on what the future holds. Our new digital home is being relaunched to enable mobile users to get the most out of the experience. This is where the BMW Museum app comes into play - a free audio guide for visitors within and outside the museum.
Start your engines.
We were also out and about a great deal, wherever the BMW scene were meeting and celebrating: nail-biting races, rallies and excursions of every type. Fancy some examples? The BMW Group as featured brand at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, motorbike action at the Isle of Man Classic TT, motoring fun in modern classic vehicles at creme21, and our first appearance at Motorworld Classics in Berlin. The list grows ever longer.
It has been a truly exceptional year - exciting, work-intensive and a continual buzz in the air - that’s our 2016 anniversary year. We want to extend our thanks to all our fans and visitors - without you none of this would have been possible.
We are now entering advent season and can reflect on all we have accomplished together. Our engines are already warming up for 2017 so we can get started on a range of exciting and surprising projects.
We wish you a merry Christmas and a happy New Year!
The BMW Group Classic Team
