"Win on Sunday, sell on Monday." The best advertisement for a new motorcycle is success in racing – and BMW knows that too. For this reason, some fine-tuning is necessary for the standard performance of the R 32. Rudolf Schleicher, an active motorcycle racer and an engineer at BMW since 1923, takes on the project of creating a "racing model." The new boxer engine, with its 500cc and 16 horsepower, already doubles the power of the R 32. The BMW R 37, presented in 1925, becomes the blueprint for all BMW racing machines. It not only establishes the BMW brand in off-road sports and on racing tracks but also makes it renowned throughout the motorcycle world. The result: From 1924 to 1929, BMW wins all German Championships in the 500cc class.
